What You Can Do After This Chapter
Learning objective. Learner investigates payment exceptions, including non-receipt, wrong amount, duplicate, and delayed payments, and runs a structured investigation from first report to resolution. Learner demonstrates this skill using realistic banking examples, explaining each step clearly and using correct terminology throughout.
Practical assessment. Learner investigates four cases, including a 75,000 euro payment not received after three days, a 2,000 dollar duplicate, and a payment credited with the wrong amount, using a structured log. For each case Learner traces the payment, identifies the root cause, states the message sent to resolve it, and writes the customer update with a revised date. Learner submits the work with all calculations, sources, and assumptions stated clearly, and checks the result against the chapter checklist before final submission.
Expected deliverables.
- Investigation log for four cases
- Payment trace per case with root cause
- Resolution message guide per case
- Customer update drafts with revised dates
Completion criterion. Learner finds the root cause for at least three of four cases, names the right resolution message, and writes clear customer updates with revised dates. Completion is judged on accuracy, completeness, and clear reasoning throughout the submitted work.

- Exercise: Trace One Payment Through Every Possible Failure Scenario (one USD cross-border payment traced through reject, return, recall, duplicate, timeout and outage, with what happens at each step)
